First we start with some inspiration. In this case, it was this version of Kyle Rayner as the Green Lantern in Countdown Final Crisis.

Second, I interpret this 'costume' into something sew-able, and wearable for anytime- oh, and of course, make it comfortable. (hence, cotton, cotton, cotton!)

Next, the measurements, and pattern making. I use my flat (the technical illustration above) as a guide where to make my new style lines, and make all my patterns for the symbols, and overlays, etc. Sometimes the details are modified once I get into the construction, but I do my best to plan everything with patterns, measurements, and drawings before I begin cutting.

Next, I spent a while preparing the fabric, and cutting out, and labeling all the many pieces. I add interfacing, and prep things for construction. Mostly, it makes a big mess.

One of the first pieces I finished was the GL symbol. Sometimes no matter how much I plan, things do not work out, so once I start questioning if something looks funny, I'll just remake it. So the final symbol is the second one that I made, and I was much happier with it.

Then I attach the green overlays, complete with double topstitching. There were also additional appliques on the sleeve, which was a new thing for me to do, a little tricky, but nothing I can't handle. This version of the costume has white gloves, so he got white cuffs. Also, there is white behind the symbol, so I needed to spread the white out a little.
The collar is topped off with green piping, been embracing piping a lot lately, and loving every minute. There is pockets hidden away in there too of course, because, where are you going to put your ring while your washing the dishes huh? Perhaps soon we shall even have some pics of this beautiful garment on its rightful owner (hint, hint).
